Legendary places – your favorite movie settings

We all love movies, we have favorites and really like some of the places they were shot. Newly more and more people choose famous film settings as vacation destinations and these are really great places to visit. If your aim is a a famous movie setting, you can choose between beautiful castles, uncanny deserts or magnificent mountain landscapes.

The significant growth in the tourism of New Zealand is partly because of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hundreds of thousands of fans do the pilgrimage every year to the famous settings of this epic fantasy world and Hobbitton from the Shire can still be visited in Hinuera valley.

The bare desert landscape of Tunesia is becoming a very popular travel destination thanks to the fact that it gives home to the scenes of Star Wars that take place on the Tatooine planet where Luke Skywalker spent his childhood.

I am sure you remember Audrey Hepburn’s iconic movie based on Truman Capote’s novella, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The well known Manhattan jewelry store gave home to the most memorable scene of the movie, Hepburn’s famous breakfast.

One of the most strangely interesting formations on Earth gave home to the landing site of the aliens in Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind . Devil’s Tower is Wyoming is also surounded by ancient Native American myths and legends.

Would you believe that Ridley Scott found the Colosseum too small for the filming of Gladiator in 2000. That is why he decided to shoot the arena scenes in Fort Ricasoli and all the movie on Malta. The same ancient fortress gave home to the shooting of Troy as well.

In Globe Pub, or more precisely above the pub did Rene Zellweger live as Bridget Jones in the movie version of the popular chick lit novel. The pub and the actual apartment is located in one of the best places in London, close to a lot of good restaurants and cafes as well as the London Bridge station.

So, what movie location would you like to visit? My top favorite setting is New Zealand – maybe because I really love Lord of the Rings. What is your favorite?
