Most disappointing tourist attractions in the world

Most people dream for a lifetime to get to one or other of the most famous attractions, but those who have already been there, often say they did not get when they expected. I do know the feeling unfortunately and have learned the lesson about all that glitters…

According to a research conducted on British tourists by the famous newspaper, The Telegraph’s online version, behold the most disappointing tourist attractions in the world – please note that I do not mean to offend anyone’s feelings with the below…

The Eiffel Tower, Paris

I am sorry guys to start my disappointing tourist attractions in the world with this one – it is also personal experience. The Eiffel Tower is very charming and romantic in the movies, but in reality you have to stay in queues a lot – sometimes hours – to get up, it is very expensive and the park surrounding it is full of eastern European beggars – at least it was when I was there in 2009.

Mona Lisa, Louvre, Paris

Paris again, sorry! The Louvre is amazing and breathtaking and all you want, I loved it. But Leonardo’s famous work is quite overrated I fear. Mona Lisa is a small painting, nearly unapproachable, partly because of the cordon around it, partly because of the huge crowd that constantly surrounds it.

Yes, take a look if you are keen, but drive your efforts towards the rest of this amazing place, it is wonderful!

Time Square, New York

Time Square is really great, it makes you proud that you have seen it and stood in the middle of it and that’s cool, but immense crowds make it very difficult for anyone to enjoy the moment… Still, if New York is your dream, it’s worth a shot, just don’t spend too much time, there are more worthy places.

The Pyramids, Egypt

I do not want to wake the sleeping lion in any Egypt lover reader, the monuments and artifacts of Ancient Egypt are amazing, but travelers say the heat at the pyramids is nearly unbearable and the souvenir vendors out there are even more so. You are hardly able to get rid of them…

Spanish Steps, Rome

Apparently guide book writers have been very generous with the Spanish Steps of Rome, as according to many visitors the famous landmark is not nearly as beautiful as on the photos and – again – is annoyingly crowded most of the time…

Las Ramblas, Barcelona

It would seem that the famous shopping and pedestrian street of Barcelona had also failed the ‘crowd test’, there are so many people you can hardly enjoy anything and it is disappointingly expensive…
