Kissing does not always indicate love, many times it means respect and reverence, like in the case of the places I am about to present. Thanks to the legends attached to them – healing power, redemption, wishes granted and so on – up until today houndreds of thousands of travelers kiss them every year.

According to the legend, anyone who kisses Blarney Stone in Blarney Castle can acquire the gift of eloquence and and the ability to persuade others. Blarney Stone is part of Blarney Castle in Blarney, only 5 miles from the city of Cork.

Every year a huge amount of believers make the pilgrimage to the Statue of the Virgin Mary to pray for help. To help their cause, they also kiss the foot of the holy statue. The town of Csiksomlyo (Șumuleu Ciuc in Romanian) is located in Transylvania, Romania.

The Venetian Il Gobbo di Rialto was originally kissed by sinners and convicts in the hope that their sins will be forgiven. Even today, those who want their sins to be pardoned visit the statue and give it a hopeful kiss.

So no wonder its home, the Marian Shrine of Our Lady receives tens of thousands of pilgrims every year.

Again, a statue of the Virgin Mary, this time in France. Our Lady of Lourdes is also known for its abilities to heal and perform other miracles along with some of its replicas. So plenty of religious pilgrims go to see – and kiss – the statue since the beginning of the 20th century.
